Swiss Play about Muhammad Ali and the Beauty of Boxing: “Ali - Schlegle mit Regle”

The play roughly translates “Ali – beating up with rules” and pursues questions like “What’s a role model?” “What does fairness mean?”. Netcetera Cultura supports the performance about Muhammad Ali at schools in Zürich in May and June 2011. On a boxing ring stage in the schoolyard or gym, two actors take up the structures and rituals of a boxing match to solve a conflict. A boxing match with its strict rules crassly contrasts a street fight without rules or referees. They abstract the fight in crosstalk, dance and rap. Beforehand, the actors researched the issue “violence at schools” with a group of pupils in Zürich Oerlikon to better understand how today’s youth deals with conflicts and violence and to integrate their findings into the play.
