3DS 1 sunset is coming

As we are approaching October 15th, the major card networks will sunset the usage of 3DS 1.0 and will support only EMV® 3DS 2.1 or higher.

Reminder of important dates:

  • 18 October 2022: Mastercard will decomission 3-D Secure 1. Mastercard will no longer process any 3DS 1.0 transactions for cardholder authentication. Any transaction submitted to the Mastercard 3DS 1.0 Directory Server will result in an error response.
  • 14 October 2022 American Express is terminating SafeKey 1.0 worldwide, except India.  All Secure payments will be processed through the  EMV 3DS 2.x flow .
  • 15 October 2022: Visa will stop supporting 3-D Secure 1, excluding Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka.
  • 03 October 2023: Mastercard will stop supporting 3-D Secure 1 in India and Bangladesh.
  • 13 October 2023 American Express is terminating SafeKey 1.0 in India.  All secure payments will be processed through the EMV 3DS 2.x flow.

What will happen if you stay with 3DS 1?
