Milestone for the Austrian payment industry: Netcetera digitizes credit and debit cards for PSA

The Swiss software company Netcetera, market leader for 3-D Secure and digital payment solutions, implemented a white-label wallet for Payment Services Austria (PSA), the largest transaction service provider in Austria. This is an important step in the digitization of debit and credit cards. In addition to Maestro, the wallet now supports the latest generation of Mastercard debit cards, thus promoting the digital transformation of the Austrian payment industry.

With the ongoing advance of online commerce and “mobile first”, conventional physical payment cards are no longer the only opportunity for card issuers. They can also support their digitization on mobile devices. After all, digital payments are everywhere: In web shops, in apps and at the cash register with the smartphone. Wallets on mobile devices are becoming the main interface with the consumer. Banks or card issuers use this to offer their customers the next generation of payments with value-added services.

Netcetera's digital wallet implementation for PSA is based on its scheme-certified product suite ToPay and contains exactly these added values. Netcetera's white-label wallet product offers end customers secure, easier and faster digital payments. User onboarding is supported by strong customer authentication (SCA) according to PSD2. With the user-friendly wallet, banks can offer their end customers new and important functions for digital payments. These include, for example, the digitization of payment cards, contactless payments and peer-to-peer payments. Loyalty functions are also available for customer retention.

Peter Frick, Managing Director Secure Digital Payments at Netcetera, adds: "The wallet project for PSA represents another big step in the digitization of the Austrian payment industry. Since April 2020, we have been supporting Mastercard debit cards in the wallet in addition to Maestro, and in the second half of the year, we will also support credit cards for PSA. With the digitization of the latest generation of Mastercard debit cards, end customers now have a digital card for paying for their daily purchases, as well as for international travel."

Payment function for Android and iOS devices

With the Wallet solution, the banks' end customers can no longer pay only with Android devices. Thanks to the integration of Apple Pay, iOS users now also make mobile and contactless payments with their banking app. Netcetera's solution initiates the digitization of the card in the Apple Pay Wallet.

Martin Zeisel, Head of Sales Digital Finance CEE & SEE at Netcetera, comments on the product: "The ToPay Mobile Wallet extends the customer relationship beyond mobile contactless payments. It enables tap to pay for mobile devices based on the leading international card payment systems. The integration into the existing banking app – where cardholders already check their account balance and transactions – gives them the security to try the new payment functions and pay faster without taking out their physical wallet".
